O2 is handing out 10GB of free data to millions of users across the UK.

Getting something for nothing is rare these days, but O2 is bucking the trend this December. The popular UK mobile network – which is now part of Virgin Media – is spreading some serious festive cheer by giving millions of customers an extra 10GB of precious mobile data at no additional cost. That’s a big perk especially at a time when more of us are on the move.

Eligible users will see the free 10GB automatically added to their monthly allowance, appearing in their account and in the MyO2 app at some point during the month. Just check your settings and you should see the freebie.

The bonus data comes with no restrictions. That means it can be used for movie streaming, sending photos or chatting on services such as FaceTime. O2 says the giveaway is “simply for being on O2”.

The offer applies to all Pay Monthly customers, except those already on Unlimited plans or business tariffs. If you’re on a standard monthly plan without unlimited data, your festive freebie should arrive shortly.

“This time of year is all about feeling close to the people who matter most, and we want to make that easier than ever,” said Christian Hindennach, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2.

“With this 10GB data boost, our customers can enjoy streaming festive films, gaming, or video calling friends and family they can’t be with. It’s our way of spreading a little extra cheer and saying thank you for being on O2.”

According to O2, the additional data could amount to around 20 hours of video calls, 2,000 streamed songs, or roughly four and a half hours of HD Netflix or Disney+ viewing.

This freebie follows Ofcom’s latest Connected Nations report, which revealed that UK smartphone users consumed 10% more mobile data in 2025 than in 2024, reaching an enormous 1.2 billion GB every month.

That’s roughly the equivalent of streaming 400 million HD football matches — a dream or a nightmare, depending on your view.
