United announced its new deal with SpaceX which would supply more than 1,000 of its planes with satellite internet powered by Starlink’s services. The company noted that this will be a “gate-to-gate” experience where users can connect to in-flight WiFi pre-departure, on flight, and upon landing at their respective destinations.
It was revealed by United that Starlink satellite internet access would be available on user’s devices, as well as the plane seat’s headrest where they can enjoy live TV and streaming.
According to United, its largest plane on the fleet would be the first to receive Starlink satellite internet capabilities to offer its passengers, and they would roll out to its more than 1,000 aircraft. Testing will begin by 2025, and this would also mark the first time that United will offer Starlink’s internet service.
Free In-Flight WiFi Powered by Starlink on United Flights
Previously, SpaceX offered Starlink internet availability on private jets, but it is now venturing on commercial flights which adds United to its list.
In-flight WiFi would offer improved bandwidth and performance compared to previous experiences, and best of all, this will be available for free, as a complementary service for flying with United.
